About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need Chinese visa while cruising

I am a US Citizen planning a cruise from Japan to Hong Kong with 4 stops in Chinese ports, each of them less than 24 hours (Shanghai 33 hours). Do I need a tourist visa? Thank you.
