About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Cruising from Shanghai

We are US citizens planning a trip to Shanghai, China. Our itinerary involves arriving in Shanghai and staying for one night before embarking on a seven-night cruise the following day. Upon returning from the cruise, we intend to stay for one night before departing back to the US.

We would like to inquire about the visa requirements for this trip. Specifically, do we need a visa for our brief stays in Shanghai before and after the cruise, considering the limited duration of each stay?

You don't need a visa for the two short stays in Shanghai if the cruise is an international cruise. You are covered by either the 24h visa free transit or the 240h visa free transit (if staying longer than 24h in Shanghai). Remember to book the flight ticket back to US before your second arrival in Shanghai.
