About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Cruising and stop at Shanghai overnight, do I need to obtain visa?

Hi, I am a US citizen, and I will be on the 28 days cruise with Holland American starting from Hong Kong and will stop at Shanghai overnight. Do I need to have China visa to board the cruise ship? Please help!

If you only stop in SH for less than 24 hours and won't stop at any other mainland city, then you don't need a visa.

If you will also travel to other coastal cities in China, you may register with a local agency to enjoy the 15-day visa-free access.
