visa extension

Recently an officer at Guangzhou Entry/ Exit department stated it is possible to renew your visa extension as many times as you want provided it doesn't exceed original visa. Is there true. Can anybody provide a reference to the policy or law? Foshan keeps telling there are now flights and I can fly home. They haven't said must, just indicate the uncertainty of next application and imply I should leave.

John, as far as I know, there is no official reference to the policy stating that one can renew its visa extension in China as many times as it want. I tend to believe what Foshan immigration says. If there are flights to your home country, you may not get the next visa extension.

It depends on the type of visa you have, but almost certainly if its a tourist L visa and there are flights to your home country, then indeed you will be asked to leave before it expires. Unless you have some unforeseen exceptional circumstances preventing you from leaving (in which case, speak to an officer ASAP), you should plan on leaving!

Tony that seems to be the idea. Again according to the 出入境 office said: it isn't dependent on the type of visa, only that it can not exceed the expiry period of the original one.

Regarding the ever changing visa situation, every time I have asked about and quoted something written on the government website, the official basically laughs at me. Individual officers can do whatever they like on a case by case basis. The point is, whats written and whats in practice are usually totally different.
