About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am flying into Shanghai on a Thursday, leaving on a cruise ship the following day.

I am cruising back into Shanghai 9 days later and go straight to the airport to fly out. Can I use an 144 free transit visa for this or do I need a standard visa? I will be in the city of Shanghai for less than 40 hours. Thanks
