About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa-free transit

I'm trying to change my travel itinerary to avoid getting a visa because of the difficulties in obtaining one in Turkey. I am a UK citizen with a UK passport.
I will board a ship in Tokyo arriving in Beijing 08:00 in the morning & leaving on the same ship at 19:00 on the 2nd day.
The the ship will arrive in Shanghai 08:00 & leave the following day at 17:00 for Hong Kong.
Am I eligible for any kind of visa-free transit?
Your help would be much appreciated.

No, that requires a visa. Two stops in China automatically limits you to maximum 24 hours transit without visa.

No that is not possible due to two port stops in Mainland China. Even if it was one stop china the Turkish passport stamp is causing denied entry. its advisable to skip mainland china all together

Could I ask one more thing: what would happen if I just disembark in Beijing & stay on the ship in Shanghai? Would that be a visa-free entrance ?
Thank you for your help.

Chinese Customs has the power to embark ship and ask for documents. However the real problem lies at whether you will be allowed to board the ship if you don't have appropriate travel documents (in which case you are not entitled to a refund either).
