240 Hours Visa Free applied?

Hi,
I am a US passport holder, planning to visit from VN to Beijing (by plane) and exit on day 9 of the stay in China from Chaoshan to Hong Kong by train. Am I eligible for the visa free program? And for the 9 days in china, can I also visit chongqing and shanghai? Thank you

Your entire itinerary and your intentions are all within eligible 240 hour visa free transit. 240 hour visa free transit allows travels across provincial borders and this is a detail that confuses many. Actually, you can, if you want, travel from Beijing to Shanghai, then Chongqing, in the end stay in Chaoshan and take a train from Chaoshan to Hong Kong West Kowloon station. Here you should be aware that you will have to buy your train ticket from Chaoshan to Hong Kong West Kowloon train station even before you depart from Vietnam because you will be asked to present it in both Vietnam at the time of your check-in and upon your landing in Beijing. Also, you will have to take exactly that train you have bought your ticket for. You should be aware that the immigration official in Beijing will ask you for your itinerary in China, so have ready all the answers that she/he could ask as domestic flight tickets, hotel bookings and similar and above all, your train ticket that you will use to exit mainland China toward Hong Kong. Have a nice visit to China.
