Can I fly into Shanghai, board a cruise the next day, return to SH and spend a few days?

I'm wondering if we can have two different visa free periods separated by a cruise from/to SH.

We would arrive from Canada on April 30th or May 1st, Board the cruise ship May 2nd, Return to SH May 10th, and fly out on May 14th.

Does this work?
