About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72h

I'm a Canadian with flight booked from Canada-Beijing-bangkok (via HK)-Bangkok-shanghai-Canada. I do not live near a big center with a Visa application center. Am I able to do a 72h transit on BOTH the coming and going if it is a few weeks apart? If during my first visit (Beijing) I apply for the Visa when I get there would we be able to visit longer than 72h on the way back? Do they get processed quickly? How long do they take?

TWOV means Transit Without Visa, it's not a visa.

Both routes qualify you for the 24h or 144h twov, it depends of how long your transit is in Beijing and Shanghai.
Under 24 hours= 24h twov
Over 24h= 144h twov

No need to visit a Visa Application Center in advance and apply for any kind of visa.

When arriving in Beijing/Shanghai just follow the signs "144h twov" and wait in line (nobody can tell you how long it takes as it depends how busy the immigration is).
Both times you can stay up to 144h in Beijing and Shanghai.
