About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Moscow to tokyo with stop in beijing 72hour visa free transit

I would like to travel from Moscow to Japan on an australian passport via Beijing.

Flight from Moscow would be to PKK arriving in the morning then the next evening depart from PEK to Tokyo.

Can a 72 hour visa free transit be used in this case where the depart and arrival airports are separate? on the 144 hour visa free in Beijing i not it is possible so want to confirm the same for 72hour.

Yes, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and traveling on separate tickets and/or by taking different airports is fine. You have to know that you can use several different airport if they all belong to a single transit area. In your case, both PKX (not PKK as you have written) and PEK are perfectly fine and you can proceed with your planned journey with absolute peace of mind. By the way, you do not have to bother with 72 hours because it is 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing already for many years.
