Yes, you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit during your second arrival in Shanghai. Please, note that there is no 72 hour visa free transit in Shanghai, but 144 hour visa free transit. Also, you are encouraged to use correct terminology because this is not a visa at all, but quite the contrary - visa exemption.
During your first arrival in Shanghai, you will be just in a transit and if you are traveling on a single ticket, you will just walk from one gate to the other and you do not have to perform any kind of formality nor fill out any forms. Between the two gates you will just cross a security check.
During your second arrival in Shanghai the first thing you will do is to approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will present your flight tickets and it is advisable to have at least the first overnight booked in advance. After a short check you will be granted a temporary entry permit and you will cross the immigration to formally enter China.
Basically, this is it. Have a nice journey.
