Beijing to North korea

I'm arriving in beijing for 2 days then leaving on the train to north Korea for 6 days before returning to beijing for 2 more days before flying out to Thailand can I use the 72hour Visa on my arrival and then on my return to Beijing or would I need to apply for a visa before I depart..Many Thanks
