About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Sydney - Guangzhou, then Hong Kong - Sydney

I have a flight from Sydney to Guangzhou (transiting via Hong Kong, but will not be leaving the airport/exiting customs and immigration in Hong Kong), then a 6 days later I have a flight back to Sydney from Hong Kong (direct flight). Will I be eligible for the 144 hour visa free transit?

I'm planning to taking the train from Guangzhou to Hong Kong when I leave Guangdong and it seems like the best option is to buy the train ticket from this website?

I am travelling on an Australian passport.

Would really appreciate any information/advice so that I can avoid any problems or surprises.

Thank you very much for your reply and help.
If I am getting a train from Guangzhou to Shenzhen, which Shenzhen train station should I choose so that getting to the ferry port would be the easiest?

Actually, you will have to alter your itinerary, but very slightly.

I perfectly understand what you have written, but you should understand that a Chinese immigration will see your itinerary as:

Hong Kong - Guangzhou - Hong Kong

Regardless of the fact that you don't intend to leave the airport in Hong Kong and this is definitely not allowed. Anyway, we have an easy fix :)

You will take a ferry, instead of a train, and not to Hong Kong, but to Macau. To elaborate...

Even before your travel from Australia, you will have to book a ferry from Shenzhen Shekou port to Macau. You will book your ticket through TurboJet ferry website. After you perform a booking, you will receive an e-confirmation that you will print it out. You will take this printout and it will be a proof that you will be in a real transit and also you will use this printout to collect your real, paper ticket for a ferry at Shenzhen Shekou ferry terminal. Like this, your itinerary will become eligible for 144 hour visa free transit:

Hong Kong - Guangdong province - Macau

After you have arrived in Macau, you can take the first ferry to Hong Kong and than take a flight back to Sydney.

One more detail... When you travel on 144 hour visa free transit in Guangzhou, you are allowed to stay and travel throughout Guangdong province as you wish.
