About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72/144 hours visa

Hi, we would like to fly to Cambodia from Italy, on February 2020, via Shanghai. Could we apply for the 72 or 144 hours visa? We have some friends resident in Shanghai and we would like to stay in their place.
Which documents do we need? How does it works?
We are 2 adults and one 9 years old child.
Thanks a lot, best regards.

You can if Shanghai will be your only stop in Mainland China. Upon arrival there is a line for visa-free transit travelers and a place to fill out the specific arrival form. Use your friend's address as your address in Shanghai and be as specific as possible.

Immigration will need to see a printout of the confirmation email for your flight to Italy. Have your friend's cell phone number ready in case they ask.

After meeting up with your friend, all of you (including the kid) need to go to the nearest police station to register yourselves with your passport and your friend's passport or Chinese ID card within the first 24 hours of arrival. Your friend may need to accompany you.
