Cruise out of Shanghai

We are a couple from the Netherlands. We will arrive in Shanghai on a flight of KLM direct from Amsterdam, we will arrive at febr. 27th and we will leave on a cruise with the HAL at March 1st. The time in Shanghai we will stay in an hotel. Our first country we will visit with the cruise is Japan and we will arrive at Hongkong 2 weeks later. Can we make use of the 144 visa when we arrive in Shanghai?
