You are perfectly allowed to proceed with your travel plan. Your itinerary is fine, but you should keep in mind that you are allowed to have only one stop within mainland China for each of your travel legs.

During your first stop in Shanghai, you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and during your second stop for 24 hour visa free transit. In both cases, you don't need any kind of visa.
