If I travel from Perth to Bangkok Thailand to Shanghai can I get the 144 hour travel free visa?

If you travel:

Perth - Bangkok - Shanghai - X country (different than both mainland China and Thailand)

And you don't have any additional stop within mainland China of any kind, you will be definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai and you don't need any kind of visa.
