About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Seoul ---> Beijing ---> Kazakhstan

I'm a US citizen. I will be flying from Seoul to Beijing on China Southern on Jan 8. Then fly from Beijing to Kazakhstan on Jan 14 on Air Astana. Am I eligible for the 144 hour visa?

If so, how do I apply for it? Do I just tell the airline when I check in at the airport I want the 144 hour transit visa?

Is it ok I will be on China Southern coming into China and then flying out on Air Astana?

It's not a visa also you can't apply for it.
At the check-in just let the airline know that you wanna get use of the 144h twov in Beijing.
When you arrive in Beijing, just follow the signs for 144h twov.
Print out your e-ticket to Kazakhstan and your hotel reservation.
The immigration will give you a temporary permit for 144 hours,
