About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Xiamen

Xiamen 144 hr. visa transit exemption?

Traveling by air to Hong Kong for 3 nights in February. Then embarking ship for a 21 night itinerary ending in Hong Kong. Our only China mainland stop is Xiamen for 8 hrs. Other ports are Vietnam, Singapore, Philippines. Are we eligible for 144 hour visa exemption or any other exemption? We are US citizens with valid passports

Marie, I would say that your cruise is "South China Sea Circle" provided by Seabourn Cruise Line. If I'm right, your cruise will have a length of 28 and not 21 days :)

Never mind... In any case, ports of call immediately before and after Xiamen will be in different countries and this fact makes your stop in Xiamen perfectly eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. Why 24 hour TWOV? Simply because your entire time spent in Xiamen will be less than 24 hours. If your entire time in Xiamen is just a minute longer than 24 hours, you would be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.

In reality, 24 or 144 hour visa free transit does not change anything in essence for you and other passengers because all of you will be eligible to arrive and explore Xiamen and especially Gulangyu island absolutely without any kind of visa.
