About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

if refused temporary entry permit can one apply for 72 hour TWOV

I will be flying into Beijing next week - I have a 13 1/2 hour layover- I am flying on 2 separate tickets which means that I need to exit to collect my baggage. I am afraid that if they dont give me the temporary entry - how will i get my suitcases? Can they still refuse me temporary entry? and if they do- can i try to apply for 72 hour TWOV which would give me entry? Another option- should I pay for cheap hotel just so I have a reservation to show them even if I dont plan on using the room. My 2nd flight out of Beijing is at 3 am?

It shouldn't be a problem to get approved for the entry to leave the airport due to the luggage issue. Buying a hotel is a Shanghai thing. You can't apply for 72 hour visa free when your flight leaves in less than 24 hours.

You will be able to collect your suitcases. The airport authorities won't want them lying around, and they will take a pragmatic, path-of-least-resistance approach. You don't have the option of applying for 72 hours TWOV, by the way.

Louise, thank you for reply. Just to be sure- the fact that my 2nd flight is a separate ticket and not technically a 'transfer' that wont make a problem to get a 24 hour TWOV and then the entry permit?

Separate tickets have always been fine.
