About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am from Guatemala, I need to apply for China Visa or 24 hr TWOV will work?

Hello! Good evening! I have been trying to find information in relation to this, but the results are confusing. We will book our tickets from Taiwan-Shanghai-Russia (booking the tickets separately A to Shanghai; Shanghai to Russia), we were wondering if :
- We need a Visa for less than a 24 hr stay (Return is through the same transfer points:less than 24 hours again.)
- If we can go out of the airport if we have all the documents required. ( I have previously visited Sri Lanka (two years ago for one week) will that be a problem?)
In advanced, Thank you so much for your help and time.

If your transit time, counting from your scheduled landing, until your scheduled departure, is less than 24 hours, you are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. Also, since you have separate tickets, you will be granted a temporary entry permit because you will have to collect your luggage and also perform a recheck for your connecting flight.

You should print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in Taiwan that you will travel to Russia via Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection of your flight tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane.

Upon your landing in Shanghai, you will first approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit that will allow you to exit the airport.

Sri Lankan stamp or visa in your passport will be just fine and it is hardly imaginable that you will be asked about it at all. If asked, you will reply the plain truth and that is a visit for tourism purposes without mentioning that you have there any friends, relatives or cultural, political, religious, educational or business connections.

The procedure for your return flight to Taiwan via Shanghai will be the same as it was above explained. One more detail. You will be asked by Chinese authorities to present a visa for Russia.

This is it in short form :)

Yes, you're right. I have checked and really, Guatemalan citizens don't need a visa for Russia, for stay of up to 90 days.

Yes, when traveling on 24 hour visa free transit, you are allowed to have more than one stop within mainland China, so you can perfectly use an itinerary:

Russia - Chengdu - Shanghai - Taipei

Of course, as you have also mentioned, your entire transit time in mainland China has to be less than 24 hours, counting from your scheduled arrival in Chengdu, until your scheduled departure from Shanghai.

Beijing is also eligible for 24 hour visa free transit, of course. There are just a few non eligible small airports.
