About:Visa on Arrival

Can i obtain a 5-day visa - if i already hold an F visa (90 days), but don't want to use it?

Hello,

I am currently in China and holding an F visa (90) days with two entries - of which I already used the one (and thereby have one left). I have already booked my flight back to Denmark for Christmas and will return in early january. The flight is already booked and takes off from Shenzhen. However, I want to travel to the Philipphines in the meantime, which means that I, in that case, would need to enter China twice: once when i come back from the Philipphines (and stay a couple of days in Shenzhen, before i go to Denmark) and once when I come back from Denmark in early January. Since i need my F visa when i come back from Denmark in early January, do you know if it would be possible to obtain a 5-days visa upon my arrival in Shenzhen (from the Philipphines) - even though I in fact already hold a 90-days F visa?

Hope u can help me, it is indeed a bit confusing ;)))
Best regards

No, you will not be able to obtain a Shenzhen visa on arrival in the same time when you are in possession of another visa. The Chinese visa rule does not allow a possession of two concurrent visas!

Anyway, if I have properly understood you, you will exit China soon for the Philippines. Also, you will return back from the Philippines to Shenzhen and after a few days, you will continue from Shenzhen toward Europe. If this is a case, your itinerary will be:

Philippines - Shenzhen - Europe

In this case, if Shenzhen or any other airport within Guangdong province is used, like Guangzhou, you can rely on 144 hour visa free transit. Anyway, to be eligible for this visa free transit option, you are allowed to use only Guangdong airports or in other words, you are not allowed to fly something like this:

Philippines - Shenzhen - Beijing - Denmark

Instead, you have to fly something like this:

Philippines - Shenzhen (or Guangzhou) - Europe

Or you can even mix the airports:

Philippines - Guangzhou - Shenzhen - Europe

This is all allowed, but it has to be all within Guangdong province.

Using this option, you will definitely spare an entry and use it when you arrive in China again in January. You should keep in mind that 144 hour visa free transit is not a visa, so you can use it although you have a valid visa in your passport. You just have to be very focused and explain to the immigration official in Shenzhen or Guangzhou that you are using 144 hour visa free transit so that he/she does not collect your entry. Also, you will have to announce your intention to fly on 144 hour visa free transit at check-in in the Philippines, immediately before your departure to Shenzhen/Guangzhou.

One more detail. It is not possible to obtain a Shenzhen VOA when arriving by plane.

Yes, you would, but you should just create an eligible itinerary as explained above :)
