About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Layover qualifications

Do I qualify for 144hr if I booked RT Sydney to Shanghai, but I have a layover in Hong Kong?

Only if your flight SYD-PVG is nonstop and the next flight you take is PVG-HKG. If you have a connection in HKG in both directions, you aren't eligible.

Thank you for the clarification. Is this also true for the 72 hour exemption? Both my outgoing and incoming flights have layovers in HK.

You need a visa or different flights. 72 hour version was replaced by 144 hours in Shanghai a few years ago.
