About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Sydney - Shanghai - Korea - Japan - Shanghai - Sydney

My friends and I are planning to fly from sydney to Korea via shanghai for the 144 visa free transit period, then flying from korea to japan for 2 weeks. We are then planning on flying back to sydney from Japan via shanghai again for another 144 hours. Is this possible? I.e. use two 144 visa-free transits a month apart from each other?

Yes, this is perfectly fine and you are allowed to do that. Your itinerary is also perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai twice. By the way, your citizenship has to be among 53 eligible countries for this visa free transit scheme.
