About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is it possible to use the full 144 hours despite other initial statements?

I have entered China from Munich and will fly on to Bangkok (where I live and have valid Visas).
As I got granted the 144 hour visa, I at first intended to stay for half of that period, and my flight ticket to Bangkok and "intended date of departure" on the yellow and blue application forms reflect that.
Is it now possible to just stay longer and leave before the 144 hours are over, or do I need to resubmit new plane / hotel tickets to any authority?

In reality, this would be possible, but only in the cases of grave necessity. If such a necessity is real and you can prove it, you should visit PSB (Public Security Bureau), in reality a police station where you will explain and document this case of grave necessity. After your presentation and if they agree that you are in a case of grave necessity, they will allow you to change your travel plans and to return home according to your new travel plans. You are advised to visit PSB accompanied by a Chinese speaker.

Actually I could not see this answer before - what happened is that my visa was made for the full 144 hours, although I initially said I will stay only for 72 hours.
I stayed 6 days however, and this was no problem at all, I was not even asked anything - just being totally normal stamped out at the airport. After all, everything written in my passport clearly stated that I am allowed longer
