Shanghai - is 7 hr stopover enough time?

I only have a 7 hour stopover in Shanghai and I'm wondering if that gives me enough time to get the permit and do something in Shanghai. Does anyone know what the process is to re-enter the airport? And do you have any tips for something to do in this short time? Thank you

If you are arriving and departing at Terminal 1 (i.e., when traveling with China Eastern and/or Delta) then all you need is a security check. If you are changing terminals or traveling through Terminal 2 (all Star Alliance flights) you need to go through immigration and customs, but whether you need to pick up your bags depends on the airline (they will notify you at check-in). 7 hours is more than enough for any scenario.

There is no guarantee that one will be issued the temporary entry permit. Its up to immigration discretion. Many have been been required to spend the day inside the airport.
