About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can we fly Beijing to Macau to Xi'an in the same day and still qualify for 144 hour visa free

Hi - My daughter will be doing a study abroad in Kunming, and I would like to travel with her beforehand. We both have USA Passports. She will have a student visa for her study abroad program. Do routes 2 and 3 qualify for the 144 hour, visa free transit. Also, can we leave Macau* the same day we arrive from Beijing to fly to Xi'an? That is, if we have a flight in the morning from Beijing to Macau, can we take a flight that night from Macau to Xi'an, or do we need to stay overnight in Macau for at least one night? Thank you!

1. USA -> Taiwan
2. Taiwan -> Beijing -> Macau*
3. *Macau -> Xi'an -> Hong Kong
4. Hong Kong -> Kunming (enter China using student visa)

Yes, this is all perfectly doable. You have to take care about the four following details:

1. You are not allowed to have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China with the exception of those above mentioned
2. You will be allowed to enjoy 144 hour TWOV in Xi'an only after December 1 of this year because at the time being Xi'an is still offering 72 hour TWOV only.
3. You should be very focused and tell to the Chinese authorities not to activate your daughter student visa upon your landings in Beijing and Xi'an!
4. Since you will fly from Kunming after your daughter remains there on her student visa, you should have a flight that will bring you out of Kunming to a country different than mainland China and Hong Kong on a direct, nonstop flight.

By the way, you are perfectly allowed to arrive and depart to/from Macau within a day without any problem.
