About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa Enquiry

Hi, I am coming from Perth, Australia, go through Singapore then arrive in Shanghai on the 22nd of November at 2:35pm, then depart Shanghai to go on a cruise to Japan on the 24th of November at 4pm. I then arrive back in Shanghai on the 1st of December at 7:00am and then depart Shanghai to head home at 4:25pm. I am a permanent Australian resident but hold a New Zealand passport. What Visa would I then need for this trip? Thanks.

You are eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai in principle. To be completely certain, here are several conditions that your itinerary has to fulfill:

- Your flight from Singapore to Shanghai should not have any additional landing within mainland China and in Japan
- Your cruise is not allowed to have its first port of call, immediately after Shanghai, in mainland China port
- Your cruise is not allowed to have its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai, in mainland China port
- Your flight from Shanghai to some other country should not have any additional landing within mainland China and in Japan

If the above mentioned conditions are fulfilled and you should check for them, then you will be definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit during your first stop in Shanghai and for 24 hour visa free transit during your second stop in Shanghai. In other words, you don't need any kind of visa.
