About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit visa policy enquiry for Indian passport holder travelling from France

Hi,

I’m an Indian passport holder living in France and am travelling to Osaka, Japan in May 2026 via china eastern airlines with a stopover at Shanghai.
Onward Flight map : CDG to PVG to KIX
3 hour layover at PVG
Return flight : HND to PVG to CDG
2 hour layover at PVG

Would I need to apply for a transit visa ?
Secondly, would have to notify or apply prior to my travel ? Or is upon arrival in PVG ?

Your transit via PVG (both ways) is so simple and you do not need any kind of visa. You do not have to do anything in advance and also anything upon your landing in Shanghai. You will just walk from one to the other gate and you do not have to perform any formality nor will you fill out any forms. Also, you will not be a subject of immigration or customs inspections. You will just encounter a security check between the two gates (metal detector and the stuff). As you can see, it cannot be easier and simpler than it is. Have a nice and care free journey.
