About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Do layovers count

I am flying to Guangzhou from Hanoi on 11/20. I leave Guangzhou to go to LAX 11/23, however it is not a direct flight and has a stopover in Shanghai. Am I still eligible for 72hour visa?

You need a visa or different flights. Two stops immediately limits you to 24 hours visa-free transit in China.

@ Amanda

Even if your layover is just 5 minutes, it's a stop for the chinese immigration and your transit time is limited to 24h.
