Spain to Guangzhou and Shanghai with VOA

Hello, I am from Spain. I am traveling next week and I already have my intercontinental ticket from Spain - Hong Kong and then Shanghai - Spain.
I have to go to Guangzhou and Shanghai. On another occasion I have done HK - Shenzhen - HK by car with "Special Economic Zone Tourist Visa"and I thought I could do the same with Guangzhou, but I am not sure. If I can go and back to Guangzhou from HK with this same visa or VOA. What do you suggest?? Thank you so much!

Unfortunately, there is nothing similar as 5 day Shenzhen VOA that could be used for your trip to Guangzhou. I understand that you have done previous visit to China, in reality to Shenzhen, by using this Shenzhen VOA and this is very practical for short visits to that Chinese city.

There is one option that can be used and is called 144 hour visa free transit. Anyway, this option would require that you fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou on a direct flight and after that to take a ferry to Macau. In other words, an itinerary:

Hong Kong - Guangzhou - Macau would be required.

This is a bit pricey option because of the flight ticket, but this option allows you 6 days visa free stay and movement within the entire Guangdong province.

The problem with this option is that you cannot proceed from Guangzhou to Shanghai because it does not allow two consecutive stops within mainland China. So, when you exit to Macau, you can fly from Macau or Hong Kong (that you can easily reach from Macau) to Shanghai where you can again enjoy 144 hour visa free transit because your itinerary will be:

Macau (or Hong Kong) - Shanghai - Spain

As you ca see, this is doable and it is up to you to make a calculation and decide whether this option or simple obtaining of Chinese visa in advance (in Spain) is more suitable for your needs when you take into account the costs and the time you have on your disposal.
