144 H Transit visa for Beijing

We have New Zealand Passport, We are flying to Islamabad Pakistan and want to stay for 5 days in Beijing. The hotel and tour are prebooked. Do we need to apply in advance or do we get the tourist transit visa at the airport. We have also confirmed onward tickets. Your response will be highly appreciated.

You will not get a "tourist transit visa" at the airport because there is no such thing. You will either transit without visa if you have no other stops in China, or you will have to apply for a visa in advance. It depends on your exact route.

Let me phrase my question again. I mean Visa free Transit in Beijing. We Have New Zealand Passports and want to avail the visa free transit in Beijing. I have already booked the hotel and airport pickup and drop off. We have also confirmed air tickets from Beijing to Islamabad. So do we have to do more or we are just fine? we will be allowed to spend 5 days in Beijing without visa.

If you are flying New Zealand-Beijing-Islamabad on non-stop flights then you don't need a visa. But if you have another landing in mainland China, no matter how brief, then you will need a visa.

Hi Saul. Can you give me a straight forward answer. With your every answer i get confused. I am flying from New Zealand on New Zealand passport. Our final destination is Islamabad Pakistan. But we want to avail the 144 hour visa free Transit in Beijing. I have booked the hotel in Beijing for 4 nights. And we have confirmed tickets from Beijing to Islamabad. Do we need anything else to provide at the airport in Beijing? If every thing is OK, are we allowed to have visa free transit entry to Beijing for 144. Please give me a simple straight forward answer. And please don't confused me further. Regards

How you get from Beijing to Islamabad matters, since that is not clear a precise answer cant be given.

If it is non-stop flight on Air China you can do 144 hour visa free.
If it is flight on Qatar through Doha you can do the 144 hour visa free.
If you travel on China Southern, which travels through a second Chinese airport like Guangzhou or Urumqi then you need a tourist (L) visa.

Thanks. Your answer is clear now. We are travelling on air china from Auckland-Beijing-Islamabad. Our flights are direct from Auckland to Beijing and Beijing to Islamabad. So we will have 144 transit in Beijing. Thank you for the clarification.
