About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

No direct flight form Paris to Shanghai

Hello,

My flight is : Paris (CDG) - Frankfurt (FRA ; 2hours stop) - Shanghai (PVG) with Lufthansa
My return flight is : Shanghai (PVG) - Zurich (ZRH ; 1hour stop) - Paris (CDG) with Swiss Air

I would like to stay less than 6 days in Shanghai (with a passport which comes from the schengen are). Do I need a visa ?
Thanks !

Yes, your itinerary, the crucial part of it:

Frankfurt - Shanghai - Zurich

Is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area.

By the way, you have mentioned in the title of your post that there are no direct flights from Paris to Shanghai... In reality, there are 3 daily direct, nonstop flights provided by: Air France, Air China and China Eastern Airlines.

Thank you for your answer ZUPAN !

But here another question... I understand than I need to "confirm" my flight return flight (Shanghai-Zurich-Pairs) before the departure from Paris. How is it possible ?
Indeed, the check-in of the return flight can be done only 24 hours before.
Is Lufthansa able to print my boarding pass for the return flight with Swiss air directly in Paris ?

Thank you for help again.

Unfortunately, this clumsy explanation makes so many travelers puzzled what to do. In reality, the author of this visa free transit policy just wanted to tell that your flight tickets have to be confirmed and not on standby. This is all intention with this, I repeat, more than clumsy explanation.

So, you will just print out your confirmed flight tickets, exactly those that you have them in your email inbox and you should just take care of to have those long, 14 digit ticket numbers on the mentioned printouts. This will be perfectly enough as far as documentation is concerned for your entire trip. Of course, it is highly advisable that you book your accommodation at lest for your first overnight because there are several data that are required regarding your accommodation on the form that you will fill out upon your arrival in Shanghai.

This is unlikely to be a problem, but just to make absolutely certain: you didn't mention your nationality, you just said your passport is from the Schengen area. Although almost all Schengen passports qualify for 144 hours transit without visa, Norway certainly does not, and nor does Liechtenstein (I think).
