About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

U.S. --> Shanghai --> Delhi (visa required for a round-trip?)

Hello,

I'm curious to know if a visa would be required for the following itinerary for two U.S. citizens (with American passports):

Outbound = U.S. --> Shanghai (staying less than 144h) --> Delhi
Return = Delhi --> Shanghai (staying less than 144h) --> U.S.

I believe we wouldn't need a visa for the outbound portion, but I am unsure about the return portion, since we'll be traveling from India.

Guidance very much appreciated, thank you!

Both of your legs are perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. It really doesn't matter where from do you arrive in China until you are arriving from one and leaving China to another country. Both of your itineraries are perfect examples of what does transit really mean. Just enjoy your visa free travel :)
