About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Stay in Beijing with 144 transit visa

Hi,
I'm planning to stay in Beijing with a transit visa for 6 days. I will arrive in Beijing by plane from holidays in Japan and then fly back to Europe a few days later. If I plan to arrive on January 3rd and my flight to Europe is on January 9th, is this time frame applicable for the transit visa? These are 6 days, but it might extend 144 hours.
My other option would be to come back on the 5th and leave on the 10th -- would that be safer to avoid any possible overstays?

Mecky, your first option is perfectly allowed because 144 hour visa free transit has a formula:

The day of arrival + 6 days

In reality it is perfectly allowed to have a stay that will exceed 144 hours and if your flights have such schedules, you are allowed to stay and you will not risk to run into overstay.

Just keep in mind that your itinerary has to look like this:

Japan - Beijing - Europe

And you are not allowed to have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China.
