About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Xiamen

AbuDhabi - Bangkok (connecting flight only) - Xiamen - 4 days in xiamen

My likely travel itinerary is

Xiamen - Bangkok - 2 days in Bangkok

Bangkok - Abu Dhabi

Would I be able to use 144 hour visa free transit, given I am flying from AbuDhabi to Xiamen without exiting at Bangkok.

Many thanks for clarifying this. I hold a UK passport. If I change my itinerary to transit via Honkong only for outward journey, that would be fine?

AbuDhabi - Hongkong - Xiamen - 4 days in xiamen
Xiamen - Bangkok - Abu Dhabi

You are allowed to travel on this itinerary only if you are UAE citizen. UAE citizens don't need a visa for China for up to 30 days of stay, so this is fine if you hold UAE passport.

In case that you are not UAE citizen, you have to know that this itinerary is not eligible for any kind of visa free transit scheme because this is a round trip flight or a visit to China because of this segment:

Bangkok - Xiamen - Bangkok

The rule is: Only the immediate points before and after your Chinese destination matter. As you can see, Bangkok is before and after your Chinese destination and this is not allowed under any scheme of visa free transit.

You will need a visa obtained in advance or to rearrange the flights.
