About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

72H Visa

Hi, I will go to Seoul in South Korea and then go to Shanghai for 72H before going to Japan. I have a French passport and I want to know if I can use the exemption program with hard copies of flight tickets to go to Japan and hotel reservation?

Thank you! In fact my itinerary will be San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, Osaka, Seoul, San Francisco with different airlines.

I will have a copy of my flight confirmation documents, hotels confirmation documents and also I took a travel insurance with ALLIANZ only for the China trip. Is it enough or anything else is needed like a letter from the hotels? Thank you again!!!

Ben, if your exact itinerary is:

Seoul - Shanghai - Japan

And you don't have any additional landings between the mentioned places, you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai.

Please, have in mind that 72 hour visa free transit has been replaced in Shanghai by 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago. Also, please, use correct terminology. This is not 72 or 144 h visa, but a transit without a visa. There is no visa at all!

This is all just fine. Anyway, the crucial part that is of interest for Chinese immigration authorities is as the above mentioned. Of course, you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit :)

Flight reservation and hotel confirmation are sufficient. Immigration does not really care whether you have insurance or not because the government has the power to block your departure if your medical bills are not paid after receiving care.
