About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Xiamen

Canada to Sydney via Xiamen

I am getting conflicting answers. We are travelling Vancouver to Sydney, Aus, with a 17 hour layover in Xiamen, and the return leg with just 3 hours lay over in Xiamen. Passports are Canadian. Are we better off applying before hand for a visa, or will we be issued a transit visa at immigration? Kind regards, nervous Nellie

If I'm not wrong, you will fly twice via Xiamen using XiamenAir flights. Also, I assume that your flights were bought as a single purchase, consisting of two single (through) tickets or better to say of one round trip ticket.

If I'm right, you are perfectly eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Xiamen twice and you don't need any kind of visa.

You will print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in Vancouver that you will travel to Sydney via Xiamen using 24 hour visa free transit. Also, you will tell the same thing in Sydney, but just with different names and order, of course.

Since you will have 17 hour layover, you will apply for a temporary entry permit upon your landing in Xiamen, of course, if you want. This application is done at 24 hour visa free transit counter, but you have to be aware that the issuing depends entirely upon immigration discretion. If you want to increase your chances to be granted the mentioned permit and especially if your layover is during the night hours, you are advised to book an accommodation in advance and to bring a confirmation. By the way, your chances to be granted a permit for your 17 hour layover are really very good.
