Do we qualify for the 144 hour visa?

Hi! There is really great information on your site. I read somewhere else that you had leave from the same port so I’m a bit confused.

1) We are flying in from HK to Shanghai, staying for 2 nights and depart on a cruise to Japan. Will we qualify for the 144 hour visa?

2) We come back from Japan cruise into Shanghai and will head straight to airport to head home. We are exempted here right?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

1) Your itinerary:

Hong Kong - Shanghai - Japan

Is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area. Anyway, your flight is not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China and your cruise is not allowed to have its first port of call, immediately after Shanghai, in mainland China port.

2) You will be visa exempted or better to say, your transit will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit, but under the conditions that your cruise does not have its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai, in mainland China port and that your flight does not have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China and in Japan.

I'm more than positive that your itinerary is definitely eligible, but I invite you just to check your itinerary once again, just for a case.
