About:Visa on Arrival

Hongkong-Shenzhen-Hongkong with a 5-day visa on arrival

Is it possible to arrive as a German citizen at Hongkong, get a 5-day Visa on Arrival for Shenzhen, travel to Shenzhen and travel back to Hongkong after 5 days? Have read that you have to leave Shenzhen for a third country after the 5 days...

Of course it is possible. You have mixed up this visa with visa free transit scheme where it would not be possible to return to the same point from where you have arrived in Shenzhen. The best option is to cross via Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing for Shenzhen visa application and to return back, you can use any available mean of transport. Probably the best option is a high speed train to West Kowloon railway station.
