About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

can i use the free visa - does a 3 hr layover count as a destination in china?

flying from NYC to Dalian china via Beijing. Staying in Dalian for 30 hrs then flying to Vietnam.

then doing the same thing on the way back:

1 day in Dalian fly to NYC with a layover in Beijing

You need a visa or different flights. There is no visa-free option for a 2-stop itinerary with more than 24 hours in China.
