About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

US to Beijing, and train to Hongkong

Is it possibly to arrive in Beijing and take the train to Hong Kong on that transit visa? I would image one would have to show a train ticket to Hong Kong

Yes, it is possible to use the train to reach Hong Kong. Anyway, you cannot take any train, but only a through one that departs from Beijing West and arrives at Hung Hom railway station in Hong Kong. You will have to book your ticket in advance and probably the best option is to book it on this website. After the booking, you will receive an e-confirmation that you will have to print it out and to bring that printout with you. It will be your proof that you will really use 144 hour visa free transit. Also, you will have to give an address in China, preferably your accommodation, where your real paper ticket will be delivered.

This train departs every other day at 12:40 and arrives in Hong Kong the next day at 13:01. It is allowed to take this train on your last (sixth) day because before you board the train, you will clear immigration and after you board the train, this is considered that you have left mainland China.

This is doable, there are some travelers who prefer this option for different reasons and mostly because they can socialize with other passengers. Now you know and you will bring your decision.
