About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I go out during layover time with my China visa?

Hello,

Me and my friend will travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Chengdu. But for the flight back, we will take the flight of China Eastern, from Beijing to Ho Chi Minh City and layover at Shanghai for almost 9 hours. My question is could we go out for sightseeing when we land at Shanghai or do we need to apply 24h visa? And for the worst situation, do we have to wait 9 hours at Shanghai Airport ?

Thanks,

If you are flying from Vietnam to Chengdu, Beijing and Shanghai and then back to Vietnam then I presume you will have a tourist (L) visa. You'll be allowed to go outside the airport for sightseeing.
