This is very simple. You need the printouts of your tickets and your passport. You will declare at check-in in Sydney that you will travel to Taiwan via Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection of your flight tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane. If you are traveling on a single (through) ticket, you will just wait for your onward flight in the transit zone of Shanghai airport.
