About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I travel USA ---> Beijing ----> Singapore with a 2 day trip by train to Shanghai in between?

The trip would therefore be:

USA to Beijing by air
Beijing to Shanghai by train
Shanghai to Beijing by train
Beijing to Singapore by air

You may not do that without a visa. 144 hours transit without visa allows you to transit in Beijing, or Shanghai, but not both.
