About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transiting through 2 different airports or land borders?

I plan to fly LON-PEK and then Tianjin to Ho Chi Minh. Is it possible to fly into Capital airport, then onward from Tianjin?
On return I plan to fly Ho Chi Minh - Guangzhou (CAN) then leave via the land border to Hong Kong.
Is this within the requirements?

Thanks for that. I had planned on flying direct, but now the flights have been dropped.
I guess that flying with Cathay via HKG is ok?

Many thanks. I can't find ANY official department who will answer any questions, so thanks for your help!! Just have to find someone who can confirm if a private coach booking from Shenzhen across the border to HKG is ok and what kind of booking confirmation is acceptable!!

Mark, you are allowed to use different airports within a single transit zone. So, you are perfectly allowed to arrive into Capital and depart from Tianjin airport. Anyway, I have encountered a small problem within your itinerary and that is the fact that there are no direct flights between Tianjin and HCMC. This implies that you will travel over some additional airport. Of course, you can do that, but this airport cannot be in mainland China! Be very careful because you could lose your 144 hour visa free transit eligibility.

For your journey from HCMC, you can do that and HCMC - Guangzhou - Hong Kong is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in entire Guandong province.

Here you have to be informed that you will have to book your train or ferry ticket from Guangzhou or Shenzhen to Hong Kong online in advance and to print out an e-confirmation that you will receive after the booking as a proof that you will really travel to Hong Kong after your stay in Guangdong province.

Yes, you can definitely use Cathay as an airline and Hong Kong as a transit airport. This option will allow you to remain eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing area.

Private coach is not an eligible option and you should count on a ferry or a train instead. Of course, a direct flight from Guangzhou to Hong Kong is also an eligible option.

You can use a ferry from Nansha port south of Guangzhou to reach Hong Kong and Shenzhen Shekou port to reach Hong Kong too. You can book your tickets through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Transport company website. You will receive an e-confirmation after the booking and you will print out the mentioned e-confirmation and you will bring it with you as a proof for your visa free transit through mainland China. Also, you can book a direct train from Guangzhou East railway station to Hung Hom railway station in Hong Kong, but you should do that booking through several travel agencies and not through MTR. The reason is simple... If you book through MTR, your e-confirmation will not have your name on it. I can just suggest you to book this train on this website. Please, keep in mind that this booking has to be done at least 7 to 8 days in advance because your real paper ticket will be delivered to the address of your choice in Guangzhou.

As far as official source is concerned, you should consult Timatic where everything that we are talking about the subject of visa free transit is written there. Anyway, you will not find any official department that will want to have an interaction with you.
