Shanghai visa free transit

I'm arriving to Shanghai by cruise ship on October 26 and departing back to NY from Shanghai via Tokio on the 28 with a confirm flight and seats. I'm I eligible for a Chinese visa free transit?

Yes, you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area in principle. Anyway, to be totally certain about it, here is a couple of conditions that your itinerary has to fulfill:

- Your cruise is not allowed to have its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai, in any mainland China port.
- Your flight from Shanghai to US is not allowed to have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China and in the country where your cruise will have its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai. This detail is of crucial importance for you because if your last port call before Shanghai was in Japan, your itinerary will not be eligible for visa free transit. In other words, it is fine if your last port of call, immediately before Shanghai is in South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong or in some other country/territory, but not in Japan and in mainland China.

If the above conditions are fulfilled, then you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area.
