Deanne, no matter whether you wiwll leave the ship or not, as long as your layover in China is more than 24 hours, you need a visa. An alternative option is to book a tour in Shanghai, so you can enjoy visa-free stay in Shanghai and Beijing if you leave China with the same ship.
