About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Can I leave Schenzen airport for a 15hr layover?

I am a US citizen flying into Schenzen from Thailand. My lay over in Shenzhen is 15 hours. From Schenzen I then fly to Beijing for a couple hours and then lastly to Chicago, USA. Will I be able to leave the Schenzen airport and return the next morning without a visa?

Thank you so much for the clarification. You explained that so simply and well said. Ive had several people give so many conflicting answers without consistent reasoning. This makes sense with about everything Ive read. Luckily, I'll be in the country for a total of 22hrs! Excited to get to explore. Is there any afternoon/night tours you provide? Also does your company recommend hotels and car services?

Ron, the main question regarding your itinerary is whether your entire transit through China is less than 24 hours long! This time is calculated from your first scheduled landing, in your case in Shenzhen, until your last departure from China, in your case from Beijing. If the entire time is less than 24 hours, then you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. Also, in this case, you will be definitely allowed to exit the airport by applying for a temporary entry permit upon your landing in Shenzhen.

Quite the contrary, if your entire transit time is longer than 24 hours for just one minute, you will have to obtain a Chinese visa in advance.
