About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Sfo to Vietnam

Hi I’m flying back from Vietnam to the USA with a stopover in Guangzhou from 740 pm to 1120 the next day. My mother in law lives there. My question does this qualify for a 24 hour transit visa. Meaning can I leave the airport subway to my mother in law and return the next day . Also going there my flight goes through Guangzhou but via Wuhan for just a change of planes. What confuses me is if a flight has a originates in USA but “stops” twice in China can you still get this visa for both places? Just one or neither. Finally would it be worth just getting a 10 year multiple entry as I’m sure I’ll go back. Thx Gary

You are limited to 24 hours transit without visa in China, from your scheduled arrival in Wuhan to your scheduled departure from Guangzhou. So if you arrive in Wuhan before 1120 then you need a visa. Leaving the airport is at the discretion of the immigration officials on the day. I would definitely recommend getting the 10 year multiple entry visa.
